PRINCE IMPÉRIAL, Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (1856-1879)

Autograph letter signed « Louis-Napoléon » to his « dear Charlot », Charles de Morny
Paris, 10th March 1865, 2 pp. in-8°
Previously mounted on fourth page

A moving letter from the very young Prince Imperial, then barely nine years old

« Mon cher Charlot,

In a very diligent handwriting, this touching letter from the Prince Imperial, who was still only a child, was written on the very day of the death of the Duke of Morny to his son Charles.
Charles-Auguste-Louis-Joseph Demorny (1811-1865) was the natural grandson of Talleyrand and half-brother of Emperor Napoleon III. She was one of the “linchpins” of the coup d’état of 2 December 1851 and one of the pillars of the Second Empire, an unwavering supporter of the Emperor and Empress. He was president of the legislature from 1852 until he died of pneumonia on 10 March 1865.

Nice signature.
