An elegant portrait of the writer at home, sitting by his fireplace, his cat on his lap

This portrait, which has remained unusual, depicts the writer and literary critic at his home at 11, rue de Sèvres in Paris. Huysmans, with a faunesque face, seems relaxed while staring at the camera with a cigarette in his mouth, his cat on his lap. The shot resembles in many ways Dornac’s portraits for his series Nos contemporains chez eux.
