The philosopher’s thanks to her typist
« Avec mes remerciements
S. de Beauvoir »
Berthe Mandinaud was Simone de Beauvoir’s official typist, who took charge of the complete transcription of her entire work for her. This short letter (originally accompanied by a check) may have come in thanks for the typing done for La Longue marche: essai sur la Chine, an essay published by Gallimard following her trip to China that she made the previous year with Jean-Paul Sartre.
