MONTÉZIN, Pierre Eugène (1874-1946)
Original drawing signed
N.p., 25 April 1937, 1 p. in-4° on laid paper
Nice original drawing by the painter, enriched with an autograph inscription
A French post-impressionist painter, Montézin devoted himself fully to painting after leaving adolescence, after working in the decoration of floral panels and original ornaments. Influenced by Claude Monet, he attempted to gain acceptance at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1893 by regularly sending them canvases, all of which were rejected. He was finally accepted ten years later. Montézin was unanimously elected president of the jury of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1933.
This original drawing, depicting a group of people working to harvest the crops, reveals charming details such as the clothing of the person in the foreground. The artist added in blue ink: “Joy of living / Joy of painting / Love of nature / Montézin”
