Ce livre, qui m’a donné beaucoup de peine sera terminé bientôt…

Excusez cette façon cavalière de vous répondre. Au sujet de votre toile ce n’est pas un paysage ce sont des personnages autour d’une table. Je ne pense pas que nous ayons commis une erreur, de toute façon si vous préfériez des fleurs ou un paysage je pourrais l’échanger immédiatement.

The reference to acid, mentioned here by the artist, relates to the fact that etching (eau-forte) is a chemical engraving technique executed on a copper plate using acid.
An engraver and publisher of modern illustrated works, Jean-Gabriel Daragnès (1886–1950) collaborated, as art director, with the publishing house Émile-Paul Frères, to which he contributed many of its finest achievements. Established on Avenue Junot in Montmartre, Daragnès welcomed into his studio the leading prose writers of the time, along with the illustrators associated with this golden age of books illustrated through printmaking — among them Ambrogiani.
