« Mon cher Comte, j’ai bien reconnu votre cœur en recevant votre lettre du 24 8bre qui m’a vivement touchée et dont je m’empresse de vous remercier. Vos souvenirs sont fidèles car ma bien aimée cousine a refusé un instant d’être l’objet de ma vénération et de ma tendre affection, sa perte est l’objet de mes plus vifs regrets ainsi que ceux de mes enfants car ils partageaient tous mes sentiments pour elle, l’exemple de ses vertus, le souvenir de ses bontés tissent un culte pour la famille et nous la pleurons pour toute la famille […]
J’espère que votre santé est bonne ainsi que celle de Madame de Salvandy et de vos enfants, rappelez-moi à leur souvenir et recevez l’assurance de tous mes sentiments pour vous.

Marie-Amélie, from the Italian branch of the House of Bourbon-Anjou, joined the younger branch of the French royal family by marrying Louis-Philippe d’Orléans in 1809, who was then the first prince of the blood. Initially the Duchess of Orléans, she became Queen of the French in 1830 when her husband ascended the throne as Louis-Philippe I. She would remain the last queen France ever had.
Narcisse-Achille, Count of Salvandy (1795-1856), who served as Minister of Public Instruction under the government of François-Pierre Guizot, remained a loyal supporter of the royal couple after the rise of the Second Empire.
