Charming letter from Colette, then literary director of the newspaper Le Matin
In 1909, Colette met Henri de Jouvenel (1876-1935), a politician and journalist, whom she married in 1912 and who hired her to write articles in the newspaper Le Matin. She became its literary director from 1919. The writer responds here to a letter to her addressed by Charles Sylvestre, having wished her her feast day (March 6).
Charles Sylvestre (1889-1948) was a novelist of regionalist inspiration. A friend of Charles Maurras, he collaborated with Action française.
