Victor Hugo’s second son offers hospitality to a friend in his home in Brussels
« Cher et illustre ami,
On me dit que vous avez l’intention de venir passer quelques jours à Bruxelles. Nous avons un petit étage disponible dans le cottage que nous habitons, rue de l’Astronomie, 3 bis. Ma mère [Adèle Foucher] serait charmée de vous y offrir cette hospitalité du cœur que vous m’avez vous-même offerte si gracieusement à Londres. Si nous avons la bonne fortune de pouvoir vous posséder, veuillez m’en avertir vingt-quatre heures d’avance.

In the midst of their exile during the Second Empire, the Hugo family returned to Brussels in August 1865 to settle for a while. They lived in a Brussels house in the Saint-Josse district, 3 bis rue de l’Astronomie.
