Moving portrait of the great man on his deathbed by Nadar
Like other artists, painters and sculptors, Nadar went to Victor Hugo’s bedside the day after his death, on May 23, 1885, at his home on Avenue Victor Hugo in Paris, in order to immortalize him one last time. Paul Nadar, the photographer’s son, said that his “father didn’t want to carry all his equipment. Victor Hugo was captured in the light of day and lamps. And this photograph taken by my father in tears may be his masterpiece. »
