Je m’empresse de vous écrire pour que cela ne dérange pas vos affaires et expositions [parce] qu’il m’est impossible d’exposer chez vous comme nous espérions le faire – mon ami G. Sorel en me parlant de la galerie Charpentier pensait que vous étiez marchand de tableaux et c’est ce qui m’avait poussé à aller vous voir – je m’excuse du dérangement que cela vous a causé, mais croyez bien que pour ma part je suis heureux d’avoir fait votre connaissance – j’espère que vous ne m’en voudrez pas, et maintenant que je connais le chemin de la galerie cela sera pour moi un grand de vous d’aller vous voir.

At the end of the 1930s Francis Picabia emerged from a great diversity in his works: naturalistic, figurative paintings; new overlays in dominant green tones; landscapes that recall his impressionist and tawny period; forays into geometric abstraction, and finally a tribute to the Spanish War with the powerful painting, “The Spanish Revolution” of 1937.
