Rare portrait of Paul Valéry with his wife Jeannie Gobillard in the very early years of their marriage.


In 1900, Paul Valéry married Jeannie Gobillard (1877-1970), cousin of Julie Manet (daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugene Manet, brother of Edouard Manet), the latter marrying on the same day Ernest Rouart. The double wedding is celebrated at the Church of Saint-Honoré in Eylau, in the Passy district of Paris
