Colette announces the upcoming release of Ripening Seeds (Le Blé en herbe) and regrets that she no longer has a large paper edition for her correspondent

[she add on the top left margin for the first page] « Je vous renvoie la liste des livres »

Claudine à l’école (Claudine at school), a semi-autobiographical novel, had appeared in 1900, first under Willy’s signature, then attributed to Colette, his then wife. Of a natural style then new for the time, it created a real scandal.
Le Blé en herbe (Ripening Seeds) was published in 1923 and tells the sentimental and sexual initiation (by different but converging routes) of two Parisian teenagers. It shocked the public when it was released due to its nonconformism.

From November 1916, the Jouvenels settled in a small mansion, at 69 boulevard Suchet, in the 16th, on the border of Auteuil and the Bois de Boulogne. After their break and the departure of Henry de Jouvenel, in 1923, Colette lived there until 1926
