A short novel or long novella, La Chatte offers an original and unprecedented take on the love triangle, making an animal — Saha, “the cat” — the rival of Camille for Alain’s heart.
Drawn in the middle of the third chapter, the present fragment, tinged with sensuality and eroticism, corresponds to the couple’s first moments settling into their apartment. From the outset, Alain’s unease is expressed, soon giving way to distaste — both for this dwelling and for the overtly sensual bodily presence of his companion.
