Slight flaw on upper margin, tiny spots otherwise good condition

Elegant and scarce portrait by Gustave Le Gray, Alexandre Dumas’ favorite

This photograph was taken in the photographer’s studio, at 59 Boulevard des Capucines. Dumas was so enthusiastic about it that he reproduced it in his diary Le Monte-Cristo on 5 January 1860. The famous writer is here grasped between two ages, although he is no longer the slender figure of the first years, he is not yet the old big man of the last years. His gentle and deep look makes it one of the most beautiful portraits we have of him.
