Isabelle de Bourbon »

Queen of Spain and Navarre, born in Madrid in 1830 and died in Paris in 1904, Isabel II was the daughter of Ferdinand VII and María Cristina de Borbón. Her reign began in 1833, with the death of Ferdinand VII and the insurrection of the partisans of her uncle Carlos M. Isidro de Borbón, on the occasion of the First Carlist War (1833-1839). After the war, she supported moderation among the Basques. Carlism having conspired against the queen, an ally of the revolutionaries, Isabel II, who spent the summer in Lekeitio (1868), was dethroned. In August 1883, now Queen Mother of the restored monarch, she returned to Lekeitio, her favorite summer resort, and to Gernika where she was received by the President of the Provincial Council, Benigno de Salazar.
