Verdi wishes to have his pianoforte repaired

[Translated from Italian]

« Busseto.
Sant’Agata 4 June 1897
Dear friend,
If you come to Busseto I would be happy if you could repair my Pianoforte.
I warn you, however, that on Monday and Tuesday I will not be in Sant’Agata and that it would be good if you could write me me again to let me know when exactly you’ll be in Sant’Agata next week.
Cordially
G. Verdi »

[Original text]

« Busseto.
Sant’Agata 4 Giugno 1897
Egregia,
G.Verdi »

The fortepiano is a musical instrument with struck strings, played with a keyboard. Succeeding the harpsichord (plucked string instrument), it is the ancestor of the modern piano (struck string instrument). Pronounced piano-forté, the piano forte and pianoforte scripts are also correct.

Romanza per pianoforte remains a famous work in Verdi’s repertoire.
