Zola acknowledges receipt of the work of his correspondent and regrets not being able to talk about it in one of his articles in Le Figaro

« Monsieur
Emile Zola »

It was through journalism, from the early 1860s, that Zola entered literature. His long collaboration with Le Figaro began in the late 1870s and ended with the Dreyfus Affair. At the time of writing this letter, the novelist was then in the middle of writing Pot Bouille, the tenth volume of the Rougon-Macquart saga.
