Rare letter from the Malibran defending herself from belonging to the society of the Saint-Simonians, she claims on the contrary to devote herself body and soul to her profession as a singer

“Monsieur,
Malibran”

María-Felicia García, known as the Malibran, is a French lyric artist (mezzo-soprano) of Spanish origin. Her meeting with the French public took place at the Opera on 14 January 1828, but it was at the Théâtre-Italien that she decided to make a career, by multiplying the roles, including that of Desdemona, in Rossini’s Otello. She quickly became the idol of the Théâtre-Italien, in a period of golden age of lyrical singing in Paris. Her pleasant physique, graceful waist and strong beautiful eyes helped to mark the spirits of the time. Her untimely death at the age of 28 reinforced her myth.
